Ocean Geographic is pleased to announce the 13th Celebrate the Sea Festival in Manado, North Sulawesi from 31 March – 5 April 2018. Previously staged in association with the World Festival of Underwater Pictures (Le Festival Mondial de l’Image Sous-Marine – Marseille) from 2002 to 2013, Celebrate the Sea is regarded as one of the most significant underwater photographic events in the world outside Europe. OPTIONAL DAY TOURS – April 5th, 2018
1. Tangkoko Nature Reserve Tour
Duration: 8-9 hours.
Depart from your hotel to Tangkoko Nature Resereve. The 2-hours trip to this 9,000-hectare nature reserve is quite scenic. Lunch is served in a local restaurant en-route. At the nature reserve, you’ll be guided by forest rangers (and Safari staff) in search of the Black Crested Macaque (Black Monkey indigenous to North Sulawesi), hornbills, and couscous as well as other fauna specific to the reserve. We will then head into the denser part of the jungle as the sun is setting, where you’ll (most likely) be able to get photographs of the Tarsius (world’s smallest primate).
Includes: transportation, lunch, 1 guide book for 2 persons, English speaking guide, entrance/ranger fees
2. Mt. Mahawu & Minahasa Highland Combo Tour
Duration: 8-9 hours.
08.30 Leaving the resort, we will first visit traditional food & flower market in Tomohon and then we head to Mahawu Volcano. From the starting point, we begin the 30 minutes climb up the stairs to the crater’s edge. From the observation point at the top we can see Bunaken & Manado Tua Islands, as well as the bay of Manado. A walk around the crater’s rim will take us 45-60 minutes, and we can also observe a steaming lake and experience the smell of sulphur from the pool.
After the market stroll and magnificent hike we go for lunch on Tondano Lake while enjoying the serenity of the lake and its surrounding hills. After lunch we travel to Pulutan Village, a cottage industry village for pottery-making. You can walk through the rice plantations. As we start back to your resort, we will visit Ranopaso hot springs.
Includes: transportation, lunch, English speaking guide, guide fees.
