Minahasa Adventure Package Tour (5 days / 4 nights)

Join us on a magnificent 5-day adventure through this unique part of North Sulawesi and explore its natural beauty, culture and history. On day 4 you have the choice between a Tangkoko Day Tour with an overnight stay at your resort in Tomohon and a Tangkoko Overnight Tour with an overnight stay at a simple homestay in Tangkoko.

Day 01: Arrival (D)

Depart from Manado City or the airport to your preferred resort in Tomohon, up in the Minahasa Highland. Enjoy your free time and maybe do some walks around the resort. Dinner at the resort.

Day 02: Mahawu Volcano Trekking + Minahasa Highland Tour (B, L, D)

08:00 Leaving the Resort, we will first visit the traditional food & flower market in Tomohon. Afterwards we head to Mahawu Volcano. From the starting point, we begin the 30-minute climb up the stairs to the crater’s edge. From the observation point at the top, we can see Bunaken & Manado Tua Islands, as well as the bay of Manado. A walk around the crater’s rim will take us 45-60 minutes. We can also observe a steaming lake and experience the smell of sulfur from the pools.

After the market stroll and magnificent hike, we go for lunch at Tondano Lake while enjoying the serenity of the lake and its surrounding hills. After lunch, we travel to Pulutan Village, an industrial village for pottery-making. You can also walk through the rice plantations nearby. As we start back to the resort, we will visit Ranopaso hot springs.

Day 03: White Water Rafting or [CYCLING] + Minahasa Highland Tour (B, L, D)

08:00 Leaving the Resort, our first stop today is Pagoda Ekayana in the village of Kakaskasen, Tomohon. A place of worship for Buddhists, the temple also welcomes visitors to admire its architectures that blend well with the surrounding nature.

Afterwards, it’s time to experience one of the most spectacular and thrilling adventures in North Sulawesi. You will be driven to Sonder Village for your white water rafting. After gear fitting and briefing, the journey down the river will take about one and a half hours and at the end, you will scream for more. Every raft can hold up to six persons including an experienced guide.

After this wet and wild experience, visiting the Bentenan weaving workshop is a must to see the local weaving traditions being practiced.

We will have lunch at Lake Linow, a sulfuric lake (or equivalent), and then visit Woloan Village, to see the Minahasan Traditional Style Houses being built, knock-down style, ready for delivery or shipping before we take you back to your resort for dinner and overnight.

Day 04: Kali Waterfall Tour + Tangkoko Day Tour (B, L, D)

08:00 From the Resort, we head to Kali Waterfall*, part way down the road on the way to Manado. You will discover a rural village and enjoy a scenic walk to the two falls. (Wear sneakers or hiking boots as it can be quite slippery, also perhaps a change of clothes, a t-shirt, and shorts). Be ready for lots of wind-blown spray as the force of the water is pretty intense, causing the mist to pretty much cover everything and everyone. There is a nice bridge that spans the river where you can get some great shots of the waterfall.

After the visit to Kali Waterfall, we continue our tour to the Tangkoko Nature Reserve. The 2-hour trip to this 9,000-hectare nature reserve is quite scenic as we pass many small villages. We will have lunch en route. At the Nature Reserve, you will be guided by a forest ranger and Safari staff in search of the Macaca Nigra (black crested macaques indigenous to North Sulawesi), hornbills, couscous, Tarsier tarsier (one of the world’s smallest primates), as well as other fauna specific to the reserve. After the sun sets, we will have dinner at a local homestay near Tangkoko. After dinner, we will drive to the chosen resort in Tomohon for dinner and overnight.

(Alternative Tangkoko Overnight Tour: When the tarsiers have departed for their nightly foraging, we head to a homestay for dinner and overnight.)

Day 05: Departure (B)

(Alternative Tangkoko Overnight Tour: Early morning, we will again hike into the forest to view more birds and the Macaca Nigra as these monkeys are early risers and are searching for food along the coastline of Tangkoko. After several hours we head back to the homestay for breakfast.)

Breakfast at the resort. We pick you up at the designated time to the airport to catch your next flight or transfer you to your next destination.

Add-on trip to Tasikoki:

An add-on trip to the Tasikoki Wildlife Rescue and Education Centre can be done on day 5 or day 1 in the morning, starting between 09:00 and 09:30. Here you can see many unique species from all over Indonesia, as well as several endemics to Sulawesi that have been rescued from the illegal trade. During your 1.5 hours tour, you will learn about the conservation of wildlife and nature and the rampant illegal wildlife trade. Afterwards, enjoy a vegetarian meal together with the staff at the center as well as the many volunteers from all over the world, then drive to Tangkoko for about 1.5 hours.
